NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Body Type Guide: How to Unlock and Change Your Appearance

NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Body Type Guide: How to Unlock and Change Your Appearance

There are a lot of things I care about when I start a new NBA 2K game. Obviously, the build matters. Badges matter. Attributes matter. But after spending enough time in NBA 2K27, I’ve realized that the way your MyPLAYER actually looks on the court matters more than I expected.

Maybe that sounds a little superficial, but hear me out.

When you spend dozens or even hundreds of hours with the same character, you eventually want that character to look right. A lightning-fast point guard should look lean and athletic. A defensive center should have some serious size behind him. And if you’ve built a player who is supposed to live in the paint, watching him run around with a generic body shape can feel surprisingly wrong.

The problem is that NBA 2K27 doesn’t simply hand you every MyPLAYER body type at the start. You have to earn them through progression, and the main place you’ll be doing that is the Gatorade Training Facility.

I’ve spent plenty of time messing around with the gym system, trying different drills, and figuring out what actually matters. So if you’re wondering how to change your body type in NBA 2K27, here’s everything you need to know.

Why Are MyPLAYER Body Types Locked in NBA 2K27?

When you create your MyPLAYER, the game gives you a default body shape based largely on your player’s physical profile.

That means your height, weight, and build dimensions aren’t just numbers sitting on a builder screen. They also influence which appearance options are available to you.

And this is important: not every body type is available for every build.

A smaller guard might have access to leaner and more compact frames, while a much taller center can have access to larger, heavier-looking body shapes. So if you’re looking through videos online and wondering why another player’s body type isn’t showing up for you, your build may simply not support it.

Personally, I don’t mind this system. It gives the physical side of MyCAREER a little more progression. The downside is that it can be frustrating when you’ve already created the perfect build and then discover that the body shape you actually want is locked behind gym progression.

So, before you start grinding, remember that body type availability is tied to the physical dimensions of your MyPLAYER.

How to Unlock New Body Types in NBA 2K27

This is where the Gatorade Training Facility comes into play.

If you’re completely new to NBA 2K27, the basic process is pretty straightforward: go to The City, find the Gatorade Training Facility, and complete your weekly workouts.

But there’s a little more to it than simply walking into the gym and pressing buttons.

1. Enter The City

First, leave the regular MyCAREER menus and head into The City.

Open your map and look for the Gatorade Training Facility. Once you’re there, you’ll have access to the various workout stations.

The gym is useful for more than just body types, too. Your workouts are connected to physical progression, stamina improvements, and other MyPLAYER rewards, so it’s worth getting into the habit of visiting even if you’re not obsessed with character customization.

2. Complete Four Weekly Workouts

The key requirement for unlocking a new body type is completing four workouts during your weekly gym session.

However, there’s an important catch.

You need to perform well.

To get the better result, you want at least a three-star rating on each of your four workouts. If you’re trying to make this as painless as possible, I strongly recommend choosing exercises you’re comfortable with rather than randomly selecting the most complicated stations.

I’ve learned the hard way that there’s no reason to turn a simple weekly reward into a frustrating mini-game marathon.

3. Pick the Easier Exercises

The Gatorade facility features a variety of different drills, and some are considerably easier to perform consistently than others.

The exercises I’d personally prioritize are:

  • Agility Ladder – Simple directional inputs and timing make this one fairly forgiving.
  • Punching Bag – Follow the prompts and keep your rhythm. Once you understand it, it’s one of the easiest drills to repeat.
  • Squat Rack – The timing is relatively predictable, which makes getting a solid rating much easier.
  • Box Jumps – Another straightforward timing-based exercise that doesn’t require much complicated input.

These aren’t necessarily the only workouts worth doing, but they’re a good starting point if your goal is simply to get through the weekly requirement without wasting half your evening.

And honestly, that’s how I approach the gym now. I’m here for the reward, not to become the Michael Jordan of virtual treadmill mini-games.

What Happens After You Complete the Workouts?

Once you’ve finished your fourth qualifying workout, the game will process your weekly gym session.

If you’ve met the requirements, you’ll receive the relevant progression rewards, including the new body type unlock.

Don’t make the mistake of assuming the new appearance automatically gets equipped.

It doesn’t.

You still need to manually change your MyPLAYER’s appearance.

That’s actually one of the more confusing parts of the system for new players because the unlock and the customization menus are separate.

How to Change Your Body Type in NBA 2K27

Once the body type is unlocked, changing it is relatively easy.

From the MyCAREER interface:

  1. Open the MyCAREER navigation menu.
  2. Go to MyPLAYER.
  3. Select Appearance.
  4. Navigate to the secondary Appearance section.
  5. Find the Vitals or character-editing options.
  6. Look for Body Type / Body Shape.
  7. Scroll through the unlocked options.
  8. Select the body type you want.
  9. Save your changes.

Depending on your platform and controller layout, the exact button prompt can vary. On console, you may need to use the bumper buttons to move between the different appearance categories.

The important thing is to look under the Vitals/body customization section, rather than searching through clothing, animations, or accessories.

Once you save the change, your MyPLAYER should immediately reflect the new frame.

And yes, it carries over visually into your different MyCAREER activities, including NBA games and City-based gameplay.

Which NBA 2K27 Body Type Should You Choose?

This part is completely subjective, but I actually think body type selection is one of the more fun customization features in NBA 2K27.

If you’ve built a guard around speed and quick movement, I usually prefer something lean or compact. It fits the visual identity of the build better.

For wings, something like Tone can provide a nice middle ground. Your character looks athletic without appearing ridiculously bulky.

For bigger players, Buff, Chiseled, or Stocky can make much more sense, particularly if you’ve built a physical defender or interior scorer.

Of course, there isn’t a gameplay advantage that suddenly turns a mediocre build into a superstar simply because you changed your body shape. This is primarily an appearance and presentation feature.

But that’s exactly why I like it.

NBA 2K has become much more than a traditional basketball game. Your MyPLAYER is essentially a character you’ve invested time into, so having control over how that character looks is part of the experience.

The Weekly Body Type Limitation

Here’s the part that can get annoying.

You can’t endlessly unlock body types in one sitting.

The gym progression is designed around weekly workouts, which means you’re dealing with a real-world progression system rather than something you can completely grind out in a single afternoon.

If you’ve unlocked one new body type and want another, you’ll have to return for another weekly session.

That means building a large collection of available appearances takes time.

I actually think this is one of those systems that feels fine if you’re naturally playing MyCAREER over a long period. If you’re the type of player who wants to unlock everything immediately, though, you’re probably going to find the cooldown frustrating.

The good news is that there is another way to approach it.

Workout Warrior: The Long-Term Shortcut

If you know you’re going to be playing NBA 2K27 MyCAREER for months, the Workout Warrior progression is something you should keep on your radar.

The requirement is simple in concept: work through the different exercises available at the Gatorade Training Facility and complete the full collection of drills.

Unlike the body-type progression, the main goal here isn’t necessarily to achieve the highest possible star rating every time. You’re essentially working toward completing the gym’s exercise checklist.

Once you’ve earned Workout Warrior, the rewards become much more useful for long-term players.

You can receive benefits such as:

  • A permanent stamina improvement
  • A permanent extra turbo meter
  • Access to the available body types for your build
  • Less reliance on repeating weekly gym sessions

For someone who plans to spend a ridiculous amount of time in MyCAREER, this is easily the route I’d recommend.

I’d rather grind through the gym system properly once and then have more freedom afterward than constantly remember that I have another weekly workout waiting for me.

Why Your Body Type Might Still Be Missing

If you’ve completed your workouts and something still doesn’t look right, don’t immediately assume your save is broken.

There are a few common reasons a body type may not appear.

You Didn’t Meet the Workout Requirement

If one of your four workouts falls below the required performance threshold, you may not receive the body-type progression you were expecting.

So don’t rush through the final exercise just because you want to get back to playing basketball.

You’re Checking the Wrong Menu

This is surprisingly easy to do.

Make sure you’re checking the MyPLAYER → Appearance → Vitals/body customization area.

The clothing and general appearance menus won’t necessarily show the body-shape options you’re looking for.

Your Build Doesn’t Support the Body Type

This is probably the biggest thing to remember.

If you’ve created a player at an extreme height or weight, some body types may simply be unavailable. The game limits certain combinations to keep the character models looking reasonable and avoid visual problems.

In other words, unlocking every body type doesn’t mean every MyPLAYER can equip every possible shape.

My Take on the NBA 2K27 Body Type System

After playing around with this system, I think NBA 2K27 gets the basic idea right, even if the implementation can be a little restrictive.

I like that your MyPLAYER’s appearance isn’t completely disconnected from progression. Visiting the gym actually feels like it has a purpose beyond another menu you have to click through.

What I don’t love is the waiting.

If I create a build today and immediately know I want a different body type, I’d rather be able to earn it through a dedicated challenge than wait for a real-world weekly reset. The Workout Warrior system helps solve that problem, but it still takes commitment.

Still, compared with the number of systems competing for your attention in a modern NBA 2K game, this one is pretty easy to understand once you know the rules.

My advice is simple: do your four weekly workouts, aim for three stars or better, and get into the habit of visiting the Gatorade facility early in your MyCAREER journey. If you’re planning a long-term save, work toward Workout Warrior as well.

Once you’ve unlocked the body types your build supports, you can finally make your MyPLAYER look the way you imagined when you created him.

And honestly, that’s the best part.

After spending hours grinding badges, upgrading attributes, playing games, and running around The City, it’s nice to have a MyPLAYER that actually looks like your player rather than a generic character model.

NBA 2K27 gives you plenty of ways to build your basketball identity. Body type is just one of those little details that makes the whole experience feel more personal.
