Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Preload Guide: Release Dates, File Sizes, and How to Download Early

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Preload Guide: Release Dates, File Sizes, and How to Download Early

When you’ve spent years playing open-world games, it’s easy to become skeptical whenever a publisher announces a remake. Too often it’s the same adventure with sharper textures and a higher price tag. That’s why I approached Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced with cautious optimism. After following every preview, developer update, and gameplay showcase, I can honestly say this project feels much more ambitious than a typical remaster.

The original Black Flag remains one of my favorite Assassin’s Creed games. It perfectly balanced exploration, naval combat, treasure hunting, and an unexpectedly emotional story. Even today, many players still rank Edward Kenway among the franchise’s strongest protagonists.

Now Ubisoft is bringing that pirate adventure back with modern technology, redesigned combat, expanded story content, and numerous gameplay improvements. If you’re planning to jump in on day one, preloading the game is the smartest way to avoid crowded download servers and unnecessary waiting.

In this guide, I’ll cover everything worth knowing about the preload schedule, installation sizes, editions, PC requirements, and whether downloading early is actually the right decision.

Release Date and Preload Times

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced officially launches on July 9, 2026, but preload availability depends on your platform.

PlatformPreload BeginsGame Unlock
Xbox Series X/SAvailable now (since June 22)July 9 – 12:00 AM Local Time
PlayStation 5July 7 – 12:00 AM Local TimeJuly 9 – 12:00 AM Local Time
PC (Steam, Epic, Ubisoft Connect)July 7 – 2:00 PM UTCJuly 9 – 3:00 PM UTC

One thing I actually appreciate is the worldwide PC release. Instead of players in certain regions getting a head start, everyone unlocks the game simultaneously.

Console users, meanwhile, receive the traditional midnight launch according to their local time zones.

Should You Preload?

From my experience, yes—most players absolutely should.

I’ve seen far too many major launches where download servers slowed to a crawl during the first several hours. Even if your internet is reasonably fast, millions of people downloading 60+ GB simultaneously can create frustrating delays.

However, PC players should know there’s one important exception.

Steam and Ubisoft Connect encrypt preload files. When launch time arrives, your PC must decrypt the entire installation before you can actually play.

If you own:

  • an older processor
  • extremely fast fiber internet
  • a modern NVMe SSD

…you may actually finish downloading a fresh copy faster than waiting for the decryption process.

For everyone else, preloading remains the safer choice.

Download Size

Fortunately, Ubisoft hasn’t gone overboard with storage requirements.

PlatformDownload Size
PlayStation 561.86 GB
Xbox Series X/S64.13 GB
PC63.10 GB

I would still recommend leaving 10–15 GB of additional free space.

Almost every modern AAA release receives a Day One update, and running out of storage halfway through installation is never a pleasant surprise.

Installing the Game Early

The preload process is straightforward regardless of platform.

Xbox

Simply open:

  • My Games & Apps
  • Full Library
  • Owned Games

Select Black Flag Resynced, then choose Pre-install All.

One nice Xbox feature is remote installation through the Xbox mobile app, allowing you to send the download directly to your console.

PlayStation 5

Navigate to:

  • Game Library
  • Your Collection

Once the preload window opens, the Download button becomes available.

I also recommend enabling automatic updates while the console remains in Rest Mode so launch patches install automatically.

Steam

Steam users simply need to:

  1. Open Library.
  2. Find Black Flag Resynced.
  3. Press the Preload button.
  4. Select an SSD installation folder.

Nothing unusual here.

Ubisoft Connect

The Ubisoft launcher follows nearly the same process.

Open your Library, select the game, choose Preload, confirm your installation directory, and let the launcher handle everything else.

Pre-Order Editions

Ubisoft offers two editions of the remake.

EditionIncludes
StandardBase game + preorder bonus
DeluxeBase game + Master Assassin Pack + preorder bonus

Every preorder also includes the Blackbeard Crimson Pack, featuring:

  • Blackbeard-inspired outfit
  • Crimson pistol
  • Crimson cutlass

Personally, cosmetic bonuses have never convinced me to preorder a game.

What interests me much more is whether the additional gameplay content justifies the Deluxe Edition. If the exclusive equipment provides meaningful gameplay variety rather than simple stat increases, then it could be worthwhile.

Otherwise, the Standard Edition should satisfy most players.

The Biggest Gameplay Changes

This is where Black Flag Resynced becomes genuinely interesting.

After watching hours of gameplay footage, it’s obvious Ubisoft didn’t simply improve the graphics.

Several systems have been rebuilt from scratch.

Modern Combat

The original Black Flag relied heavily on animation-based counterattacks.

While satisfying at first, combat eventually became repetitive.

The remake replaces that with a modern hitbox system.

  • Weapon positioning matters.
  • Timing matters.
  • Distance matters.

If executed well, sword fights should feel far less scripted.

Better Parkour

One of my biggest disappointments with newer Assassin’s Creed games has been simplified movement.

Older titles rewarded skilled players.

From what we’ve seen, Resynced restores much of that freedom.

Players can once again perform:

  • manual jumps
  • side ejects
  • advanced climbing routes

This alone makes exploration significantly more engaging.

Smarter Stealth

Weather finally plays an important gameplay role.

  • Heavy rain reduces visibility.
  • Night missions become naturally stealthier.
  • Ocean storms aren’t simply visual effects anymore—they actively influence sailing and combat.

Those environmental mechanics make the Caribbean feel much more alive than before.

Expanded Story

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the new narrative content.

Ubisoft isn’t merely retelling Edward Kenway’s original adventure.

Players receive approximately six additional hours of story spread across eight new epilogue missions.

For longtime fans, that’s probably the strongest selling point.

I’ve always felt Edward’s journey ended a little too abruptly.

Seeing more of his later life—and additional interactions with legendary pirates—could become one of the remake’s highlights.

PC Requirements

Modern visuals naturally demand stronger hardware.

Minimum (1080p / Low / 30 FPS)

ComponentSpecification
CPUIntel i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 2600
RAM12 GB
GPUGTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 8GB
DirectX12
Storage65 GB SSD

Recommended (1080p / High / 60 FPS)

ComponentSpecification
CPUIntel i7-8700K / Ryzen 5 3600
RAM16 GB
GPURTX 2060 / RX 5700
DirectX12
StorageHigh-speed NVMe SSD

The recommended requirements seem surprisingly reasonable compared to many recent AAA releases.

If Ubisoft has managed to optimize the Anvil engine well, that’s excellent news for PC players.

One Change I Fully Support

Some longtime fans may disagree with me here, but I genuinely like Ubisoft’s decision to remove multiplayer.

The original online mode had its audience, but Black Flag was never remembered because of competitive multiplayer.

People remember:

  • sailing across the Caribbean
  • boarding enemy ships
  • hunting whales
  • discovering hidden islands
  • following Edward Kenway’s story

Concentrating the entire development budget on improving the single-player experience feels like the right decision.

I’d much rather receive richer missions and better AI than another multiplayer mode that loses its player base within months.

Is Black Flag Resynced Worth the Hype?

After covering games for years and playing more open-world adventures than I can honestly count, I’ve learned not to trust marketing trailers.

The real test always comes after release.

Still, Black Flag Resynced looks more promising than most modern remakes.

Instead of relying solely on nostalgia, Ubisoft appears to have rebuilt many of the systems that had aged the most. Combat looks deeper, movement seems considerably smoother, stealth finally reacts to environmental conditions, and the expanded campaign gives returning players a reason to experience Edward Kenway’s story again.

Of course, everything depends on execution. If performance is stable, the new mechanics feel polished, and the additional missions match the quality of the original campaign, this could easily become one of Ubisoft’s strongest Assassin’s Creed releases in years.

For anyone planning to play on launch day, preloading is the safest option. It saves valuable time, avoids overloaded download servers, and lets you dive into the Caribbean the moment the game unlocks. Just remember to free enough SSD space beforehand and be prepared for a possible Day One patch.

As someone who still considers the original Black Flag one of the finest pirate games ever created, I’m genuinely excited to raise the sails once again. Hopefully, this remake doesn’t simply revisit a classic—it improves it in all the ways longtime fans have been hoping for.
