Most of them throw a strange character, a bizarre setting, or some deliberately ridiculous mechanic at you and hope the joke carries the experience. Project P.I.T.T. takes a different route. It builds an entire game around the kind of workplace nightmare that sounds stupid when you explain it to someone and somehow becomes strangely addictive once you are actually playing.

Released on August 19, 2026, Project P.I.T.T. puts you in the shoes of a corporate intern trapped inside a brutalist industrial facility. Your job? Build rubber ducks, move them through increasingly ridiculous machinery, and feed them to a mysterious bottomless entity called The Maw.

And after spending time with it, I have to admit something: Project P.I.T.T. is much more fun than a game about manufacturing rubber ducks for an office abyss has any right to be.

It isn’t a perfect factory simulator. It isn’t trying to compete with the complexity of Factorio or Satisfactory. Instead, it sits somewhere between an automation game, a physics playground, a dark comedy, and an elaborate experiment designed to answer one important question: How much nonsense can I build before the entire production line collapses?

Project P.I.T.T. doesn’t look like a traditional modern factory game. Its PSX-inspired visual style gives the whole facility a rough, uncomfortable appearance. Concrete walls, ugly industrial machinery, dim lighting and grainy textures create an environment that feels like it was pulled out of a forgotten late-1990s horror game.

Then you notice the office posters.

They’re everywhere.

At first, they look like generic workplace safety material. Then you actually read them. The messages become increasingly passive-aggressive, strange and disturbing as you progress. The humor is subtle enough that I regularly found myself stopping just to see what ridiculous piece of corporate propaganda was waiting around the next corner.

That environmental storytelling does a lot of heavy lifting.

Project P.I.T.T. doesn’t constantly explain its joke to you. It lets the environment do the talking, which makes the game’s bizarre corporate nightmare much more convincing.

“How the hell am I supposed to get this thing over there without destroying everything I’ve built?”

The Corporate Satire Actually Works

The humor could have easily become annoying.

A game about an exploited intern working for a mysterious corporation is hardly new territory. We’ve seen plenty of indie games make jokes about capitalism, pointless office jobs and corporate bureaucracy.

What I like about Project P.I.T.T. is that it doesn’t spend every five minutes reminding you that corporations are bad.

Instead, the joke is built into your daily routine.

You are literally working for an organization that asks you to manufacture meaningless objects and throw them into a mysterious void. Nobody seems particularly concerned about where the objects go. Nobody asks whether The Maw should exist. You simply get your paycheck and continue working.

It’s ridiculous.

It’s also strangely believable.

The further you get, the more questions start appearing. Who created The Maw? Why does the company need you to feed it? What happens to everything that disappears inside it?

The game doesn’t necessarily need to answer every question immediately. The mystery gives the repetitive mechanics some narrative momentum.

Performance: Great Until You Build a Monster

From a technical perspective, Project P.I.T.T. is relatively accessible.

Its low-poly presentation means you don’t need an expensive gaming PC to get started. On modest hardware, the early game feels smooth and responsive.

The problem comes later.

Once you’ve built a gigantic automated system with hundreds of objects moving simultaneously, the game has considerably more work to process. Physics calculations, collisions, object trajectories and all those little moving components eventually start adding up.

This is especially noticeable on handheld hardware.

Project P.I.T.T. can be a comfortable portable game early on, but enormous late-game factories are a different story. If you’ve built a machine that simultaneously launches dozens of ducks through multiple mechanical stages, you’re eventually going to make the CPU work for its paycheck.

Personally, I don’t consider this a deal-breaker. In a physics-heavy automation game, performance problems caused by absurd player-built machines are hardly surprising.

Still, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re buying specifically for Steam Deck or another lower-power device.

Where Project P.I.T.T. Falls Short

As much as I’m enjoying the game, I don’t want to pretend it has infinite depth.

The biggest problem is repetition.

At the end of the day, the central concept remains remarkably consistent: manufacture something, move it through your system and feed it to The Maw.

New machinery makes the process more interesting, but the fundamental objective doesn’t change dramatically.

That means some players are going to reach a point where the novelty disappears.

The physics can also work against you.

A conveyor system that behaves perfectly for twenty minutes can suddenly develop a problem because an object bounced slightly differently. Something gets stuck. A machine jams. One misplaced component causes a chain reaction that ruins half the production line.

Sometimes I laughed.

Sometimes I wanted to throw my keyboard into The Maw.

That’s the trade-off.

Project P.I.T.T. is entertaining precisely because it isn’t perfectly predictable, but that same unpredictability can become irritating when you’re trying to build something precise.

For me, yes.

But there is an important qualification.

You should buy Project P.I.T.T. because you enjoy experimentation, weird indie concepts and watching your carefully constructed machinery descend into complete nonsense.

You shouldn’t buy it expecting an endlessly expandable factory simulator with thousands of hours of optimization.

That’s not what this game is.

It’s a focused experience built around a fantastic central gimmick. The combination of automation, physics experimentation, dark humor and bizarre environmental storytelling gives it a personality that most factory games simply don’t have.

The estimated 8-to-10-hour experience feels appropriate. I would rather have a game that understands its own limits than one that artificially stretches the same mechanics for another 50 hours.

And there’s something satisfying about knowing that when you’re finished, you can walk away having built a completely ridiculous machine that exists for one purpose: throwing objects into a hole.

Project P.I.T.T. is one of those games that sounds far worse when you describe it than it actually is.

“You’re an intern making rubber ducks and throwing them into a corporate void” doesn’t exactly scream must-play.

Then you start building your first conveyor system.

You add a fan.

Then another.

A piston sends a duck flying.

You attach a launcher.

Suddenly five ducks are bouncing around the room.

Something explodes.

The Maw eats everything.

You get paid.

And somehow you’ve spent another two hours doing it.

It’s not the deepest automation game I’ve played, and its physics can occasionally drive me insane. The late-game performance could also use attention, especially for players who enjoy building enormous factories on handheld hardware.

In a year packed with giant releases and increasingly complicated live-service systems, there’s something refreshing about an indie game that knows exactly what it wants to be.

If you want a strange, funny and surprisingly addictive physics automation game that you can finish without turning it into a second job, Project P.I.T.T. is worth buying.
